Bio - Who I am & Why I'm Running
Matthew is running to be your Member of Parliament because he believes your vote should matter, that our people are our most precious resource, and that we need to have an urgent conversation about how we’re going to protect our coast. He looks forward to meeting you at the doors and or at an event so we can start having these important conversations about our community.
Born in Nova Scotia at the Grace Maternity Hospital, Matthew’s family has been in the Annapolis Valley for seven generations. He has lived and worked in several different countries on five continents, but always knew that Nova Scotia and the Annapolis Valley was the place that he and his family called home. Based on his life experiences he knows first hand what happens when people fall through the cracks and is committed to reversing what has been a concerning trend here at home for more and more people to not be able to get by.
Matthew believes in hard work, doing the right thing, and leaving no one behind. He has campaigned for people at all levels of government and understands that to really speak for the people you need to represent them. The only way to get effective representation is through changing the rules so that elections are fair and represent what you wanted.
He earned his Bachelor of Environmental Studies Co-Op, minor in Geography, from the University of Waterloo and also has a Cégep Diploma from Cégep Marie-Victorin. He believes that education never ends, it is a lifelong process that will always present new challenges and opportunities.
After graduating from university, Matthew worked for over a decade in the emerging CarSharing sector across southern Ontario. If your plans required being on the road quickly, or you needed help while on your trip, chances are he picked up the phone when you reached out. He wants to use his skills in policy research, team building, and active listening to make sure Acadie - Annapolis is heard in parliament and not the other way around.
Matthew believes this campaign is about building community, seeing politics as being about public service, and restoring trust in the democratic process.
Thank you, merci beaucoup, wela’lin.
